Ingredients

1 Pound ground beef or chicken
1/2 Box macaroni - elbow, bow tie or similar
1 onion, chopped
1 1/2 Cups plain yogurt
1 or 2 cloves of garlic, chopped or squeezed
1 Tablespoon butter
1 Teaspoon red pepper sauce or a pinch of crushed red pepper
salt - to taste
pepper - to taste
This is a delicious, easy dish my Turkish Grandmother's cook, Cafer Efendi, used to make as an everyday meal. Great with a simple vinaigrette salad with tomatoes and cucumbers. It is traditionally made with ground beef but can also be made with ground chicken. For garlic lovers! The last step (the red pepper and butter drizzle) is optional but it does give the dish a delicious, spicy middle eastern flavor.

Directions

Cook the macaroni according to package directions.

Cook the ground beef and onions together in a frying pan. If your ground beef has very little fat, or if you're using chicken, you might want to saute the onions in a little bit of oil, then add the meat and cook until browned. Add salt and pepper.

Mix the yogurt and garlic in a bowl.

In a separate pan, melt the butter and mix in the red pepper or the pepper sauce.

To serve, place the ground beef on a platter or divide in individual plates. Top with yogurt sauce. Once at the table, drizzle a little bit of the butter sauce over individual servings.
